Group Pregnancy Visits

Group pregnancy visits are an exciting new model of care.  Originally started by a group of midwives in the US (www.centeringhealthcare.org), group visits are a way of combining prenatal education and medical visits all in one.  Feedback on all levels has been overwhelmingly positive with 96% of women studied preferring to receive their prenatal care in a group setting*.  We think you'll love it too!

The visits consist of 10 two-hour visits starting between 12-20 weeks.  During the visits, women will be taught to be an active participant in their care by learning to take their own blood pressure, weight and urine tests.  Every visit will incorporate time spent with one of the physicians and a group time where different topics related to pregnancy and parenting will be explored.  Groups will be clustered according to due dates.  Partners or other support people are encouraged to participate.

Prior to joining group, all women will have completed their First Maternity Visit (including a history and physical exam) as well as initial bloodwork and dating ultrasound.  All of this will be done during an individual visit on a Wednesday morning. The groups will run in lieu of individual visits after the first few appointments but if there are any concerns that arise, we are happy to see women individually.

For more information regarding dates and enrollment, please call the clinic.
